Overview

British film director John Glen was special guest of honor at the 6th Cineways International Filmfestival in Brunswick/Germany in September 2017. There he received the Cineways Lifetime Achievement Award for his work as editor, second unit director and director. The documentary ғᴏʀ ᴏᴜʀ ᴇʏᴇs ᴏɴʟʏ: ᴊᴏʜɴ ɢʟᴇɴ contains an in-depth interview with John Glen that was conducted prior to the festival in his home in Oxfordshire as well as interviews with Maud Adams, the main actress of ᴏᴄᴛᴏᴘᴜssʏ, Glen’s second of five James Bond films as a director, actress Beatrice Libert, who starred in ᴍᴏᴏɴʀᴀᴋᴇʀ, which Glen worked on as editor and second unit director, German film scholars Wieland Schwanebeck and Ivo Ritzer and others.

John Glen’s career as editor and second unit director as well as his films as director (including ᴀᴄᴇs: ɪʀᴏɴ ᴇᴀɢʟᴇ ɪɪɪ and ᴄʜʀɪsᴛᴏᴘʜᴇʀ ᴄᴏʟᴜᴍʙᴜs: ᴛʜᴇ ᴅɪsᴄᴏᴠᴇʀʏ) are discussed and his achievements as a director of five James Bond movies (ғᴏʀ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴇʏᴇs ᴏɴʟʏ, ᴏᴄᴛᴏᴘᴜssʏ, ᴀ ᴠɪᴇᴡ ᴛᴏ ᴀ ᴋɪʟʟ, ᴛʜᴇ ʟɪᴠɪɴɢ ᴅᴀʏʟɪɢʜᴛs and ʟɪᴄᴇɴᴄᴇ ᴛᴏ ᴋɪʟʟ) are analyzed regarding their connection to his second unit direction of action scenes in ᴛʜᴇ ᴡɪʟᴅ ɢᴇᴇsᴇ or Peter Hunt’s ɢᴏʟᴅ and sʜᴏᴜᴛ ᴀᴛ ᴛʜᴇ ᴅᴇᴠɪʟ. ғᴏʀ ᴏᴜʀ ᴇʏᴇs ᴏɴʟʏ: ᴊᴏʜɴ ɢʟᴇɴ is the first installment of a series of documentaries on directors honored at the Cineways International Filmfestival.

Carsten Panitz Vita

Carsten Panitz, born in 1982, received his Bachelor’s degree in English and American Studies and Literary Studies at Bielefeld University in 2009 having written his B.A. thesis on director John Carpenter (This is about one thing: dominion“ – Masculine and Feminine Identity in the Films of John Carpenter).

Panitz made several short films as writer/director, often also acting as his own Director of Photography, Editor or musical composer, before executive producing (as one of the founders of crosseyed bear fiction film production company) the full length feature ᴢᴡɪsᴄʜᴇɴ sᴏᴍᴍᴇʀ ᴜɴᴅ ʜᴇʀʙsᴛ (ʙᴇᴛᴡᴇᴇɴ sᴜᴍᴍᴇʀ ᴀɴᴅ ғᴀʟʟ) by writer/director Daniel Manns. The movie premiered at the 51. Hofer Filmtage in 2017 and has since been shown at various international film festivals.

Currently Panitz is developing hist first feature film as writer/director. He also is directing a stage adaption of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s Der Sandmann (The Sandman) as a solo performance with actor Stefan Meißner, which premiered in early Summer of 2021.
